From our President --- Marcia Gray
Fall greetings, Helena Trail Riders!

We had a great time at the chili tasting competition/pumpkin carving contest. About 15 members came, judged, ate and played games at the October 19th activity night. Again, thanks to Carol Ham who decorated, bought prizes, designed games, and encouraged the competition.

She also did the clean-up detail the next day. Several people won some nice prizes. Way to go, Carol!

I sure hope you are putting the Helena Trail Rider events on your calendar so you don’t miss out on these fun social gatherings.

Regretfully, I have included Jessica Birmingham’s resignation letter from the office of Vice President. We are in the midst of nominations, so if you or one of your friends want to run for office for V.P., other offices, or a director, we will be happy to put names in the hat (really ballots).

--Why did the turkey cross the road? (Answer is at the end)--

Christmas Party
Not knowing what members want to see happen as far as programs and social events, I am going with what has been tradition. The date may be at a time when Bill and I are unable to attend so I have been calling on others to pick up the reins. (This applies to the fat man dressed in red, too!) Because time seems to fly off, never to return, I will mention a few things we have done in the past and see if there is any kind or response to say yes or no, or please do something else. Tentative plans are to celebrate on December 11th or 12th, eating at at 4:00 (cooks will have to come earlier).

We can designate who brings what as far as a side dish or dessert, rolls, butter, relish tray, etc. Helena Trail Riders furnish the turkey and a ham but they need to be cooked by someone. We would also need potato peelers (people) to peel about 20 pounds of potatoes.

Kate has offered wagon rides, weather permitting, so we may have some early afternoon attendees. We typically eat lots, sing carols, have a game/gift exchange, socialize, and wait for Santa. I am looking for a lot of somebodies who could plan, organize and delegate the activities. Also important is a clean-up crew.
We welcome Helena Trail Riders members, former members, family and friends to join in the celebration.

Our Salvation Army family. For the past several years we have volunteered to buy items for a Salvation Army sponsored family in need. This year’s family is a 22 year old mom, her 5 year old daughter, and a 1 year old son. The family remains anonymous.

Through the generosity of our club members, we fill as much of the wish as we can. You wrap the presents and label them, then deliver them to the clubhouse the day of the Christmas party or before by calling Marcia at 443-2679. Another HTR member will pick them up from the Clubhouse and get them to the Salvation Army. I am providing a partial list for each member and hoping we can coordinate via email so we don’t double up on one item. There are a lot to choose from.

*Mom-likes blue, character Olaf from Disney movie, size large shirts, medium to large pants, size 7 shoe. Gift cards for oil change, Walmart, K-Mart, eating out, movie pass. Cookware, pots and pans, hand mixer, oil paints; brushes; canvases. Laundry baskets, toiletries, jewelry, hair clippers, leggings, wax warmer, lightly scented candles.

*5 year old is a size 6 in shirt and pants, shoe size 9. She likes purple, Elsa from Frozen, Shopkins, beginning reader books, crayons, coloring books, bath toys and a sled. Hair clips and bands. Snowboots, socks, underwear (size 6), leggings.

*1 year old boy likes blue-gray and green. He wears a 24 month in shirts and pants, a size 4 shoe. Footed pajamas, size 3 Huggie disposable diapers, snowsuit, snow boots, sippy cups, soft books, bath toys, themes of Mickey Mouse, Ninja Turtles and Paw Patrol. Baby wipes-lavender.

I would like to hear from the membership about what you want to see going on at the meetings. We need some program and activity ideas that may generate higher attendance at our meetings.

Thanks to Sharon, our Pony Tales publisher, for making sure members receive the club’s news.

(To prove he wasn’t a chicken.)

Marcia Gray

Anyone with suggestions for programs or activities, please come to a meeting and share, or let a board of directors member know what you would like to see or hear about.

Any member can contribute to the Pony Tales. For sale or wanted items and articles must be to Sharon by the 10th of each month.

It is important that no Helena Trail Rider member is left out of the loop because he/she doesn’t have the latest social communication device. Please let us know of any member who is not receiving the newsletter either via e-mail or by snail-mail. Send items you wish included in the newsletter to trailridershelena@gmail.com

Afternoon, I'm writing to let everyone know of my intent to step down from HTR directors. I lack the time and commitment to participate any longer. Please think of me when gate season comes around as I am happy to help. Jessica

Brown Beauty, Paul Revere's horse
Brown Beauty

While Brown Beauty directly changed the course of history as we know it, most of the credit has gone to her rider: Paul Revere. Simply mentioning her as "a very good horse," Mr. Revere was vastly understating this mare's character. Without Brown Beauty's speed and stamina, the revolutionary war may have ended soon after it had begun. Despite not being trained for battle, Brown Beauty kept a cool head all while her rider rode through the countryside firing his sidearm and yelling, "The Regulars are coming out!"
