Santa Claus


Everyone is invited to our annual Christmas Party!  Please come and enjoy lots of wonderful food, games, singing and a visit from Santa Claus.

Hello members! It is the season once again to share our bounty and get together for a good visit. As always, the annual Christmas Party is my favorite get together because I get to visit with people I don’t see often enough. And for those who don’t come to the meetings on a regular basis, PLEASE don’t let that stop you from coming to the Christmas Party. This is a good chance to meet people you might not otherwise meet, eat lots of good food and play our annual gift exchange game.

There will be a decorating party on DECEMBER 17th, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. Bring something (potluck) to eat and your “decorative” ideas. We will be making popcorn balls and the candy bags for the kids who come to the Christmas Party. Everything is provided so all you need to do is show up with a yummy dish to share.

The Christmas Party will be held December 19th starting at 2:00 (if weather permits wagon rides) and dinner served at 4:00 p.m. In the past we’ve always printed a suggestion of what to bring alphabetically (of your last name). This list is only a guideline and not set in stone. Some people like having an idea of what to bring, others like to bring their favorite dishes to share. For some of us old timers who need the extra help…no names please... Here is our traditional list. Remember this is only a suggested guideline. Please bring whatever pleases you. A-I: Salad, J-R: Vegetable, S-Z: Dessert.

Again, we have a wonderful gift basket to be raffled off. The Basket will include all the fixings for a lucky family’s Christmas dinner. This year’s basket will contain: a ham, scalloped potatoes, a vegetable tray, ingredients for St. Nick Salad along with the recipe, dinner rolls, pumpkin pie, chocolates from the Parrot and a bottle of sparkling berry juice. The tickets are $10.00 each and 100 tickets will be sold. Each year the tickets go pretty fast so if you want, please call Judy Gardner at 442-6314 to reserve your tickets or stop by her house at 1430 Brady (off Henderson close to the Fairgrounds). Tickets will be available at the decorating party as well as the Christmas Party if there are any left.

The drawing will be held at the Christmas Party. Proceeds of this fund raiser are for maintenance of the West arena. A lot of work has been done in the past few years to make the West Arena and the concession/announcers stand something to be proud of. This past year, Bob and Jan Braico have done an outstanding job of putting new steps on the concession/announcers stand. There is always maintenance work to be done and this is what this money goes to. Judy Gardner

A gift exchange (and game) is the highlight of the festivities for me. If you want to play, please bring a wrapped gift to put under the tree ($10.00 limit). If you are bringing children and you wish them to receive gifts from Santa, bring your wrapped gifts with your child’s name on them and place them under the tree. Santa will either pass them out from under the tree (or bring them in his sack) when he comes.

Upcoming elections: The club holds our annual elections at the January meeting. The nominating committee’s slate of officers for 2011 will be announced at the Christmas Party. At the January meeting, nominations will also be accepted from the floor. There are three director positions open in addition to a Saddle Club representative. In addition, the President and Vice-President positions are on a yearly basis so they are up for election also. If you have a talent, don’t be shy about being an officer or on the board of directors. If you know someone who is interested in becoming more involved in the club, let the nominating committee know at the Christmas party or nominate them at the January meeting. I can say from experience, it’s a wonderful way to get to know people and share your ideas about the direction of the club.

Membership Dues: There is some confusion to when Membership Dues are due and how long they run. I’ll try to explain it the best I can. If you pay your dues “after” October of the year, they run through the whole next year. If you pay your dues “before” October of the year, you do need to pay regular dues come January 1st of the year. It’s a nightmare for the secretary to have membership payments trickle in on into the summer.

Membership for a single person is $25.00 - a family is $35.00. You can mail them to the secretary, Chris Warren, at Helena Trail Riders, P.O. Box 4801, Helena, MT 59604, or give your payment to her at the Christmas Party or January’s meeting. You cannot vote in the elections if your dues are not paid. Please be sure to include your name, address and current email so Chris has the correct information on our membership list. Thank you!

Some of our older members are living in various assisted living and rest homes. These members would welcome a visit from old friends. Often we think that our visits would be an intrusion when in fact that is the furthest from the truth. Please remember them this Holiday Season. Merry Christmas to you all!

Remember: West Arena Schedule is (exclusive use) every Tuesday and Thursday and the first Friday of the month.
