Odd numbered months will have a membership and board meeting. Even numbered months we will have an activity and board meeting. Board of Directors Meeting this month - July 18. Membership meeting - prepare for Stampede and Fair!

From Our President ----------- Howdy Helena Trail Riders!

We have had so many events and activities that happened in late June and early July, it may seem like you are reading yesterday’s news. Sorry about that, but the Pony Tales is on a schedule, and when something happens that is not mentioned the month before, it may be left out if not caught. Remember, if it is not in the Pony Tales not every member knows about it. With that being said, thank-you to those who support the Trail Riders with websites, Facebook and other internet media. (Please join us at 6:15 p.m. for the business meeting, social events and programs. We have a lot of space to fill the third Wednesday of the month.)

From last month, June:

Chris (Trail Ride Director) attended the board of director’s meeting since it was raining and she didn’t want to be riding in it. Keith Herrin and his mother, Shirley, were at the Little Big Horn so they missed out on ice cream. Bet they ate dust instead.

Some members we don’t see often enough came for ice cream.

Welcome new member Sally Hoffa who likes to ride and has time to ride during the week. She wants to get acquainted with the trails around Helena and close by. We left the clubhouse with Bill Inama, Chris and Sally talking excitedly about the next trail ride.

O-Mok_See, July 1st at the west arena. Ride or come help. Either way or both, we need you. Timers, line judges, rule enforcers, announcers, rock raking, lane lines put down, ribbons to hand out, all kinds of jobs. The usual concession stand people are going to be helping in the crow’s nest and arena so bring your lunch and late breakfast.

Caleb takes responsibilities seriously. With family for help (especially dad, Marvin) and not waiting for the HTR work party, he gets things done. New gates and rails at the arena, posts pounded, weed whacking around clubhouse and more. He is also the proud owner of a two wheeled buggy. We grant him no slack in getting his mule or horse hitched to this new contraption. We are waiting for photos of the maiden driving experience. Please give him a word of appreciation when you see him for all the hard work he has put in as maintenance director.

July What an O-Mok-See! We had many riders from Great Falls, Anaconda, Butte and elsewhere. It was the best one husband Bill and I have seen for many years. Most of those 15 or older took at turn at helping with something in the arena. All the help made for a fun O-Mok-See and sense of community for most attending. Only one Back-to Earth recipient, but I bet she doesn’t want her name published. If it is any consolation, either you have become a member of the Back-to Earth club or you are working on your membership requirements and will be there in the near future.

Fun fundraiser! Heather Hollandsworth has raffle tickets to buy for a chance to win two Saturday night Stampede tickets in row D. All the proceeds go to Helena Trail Riders and will be used for continuing repairs.

West Gate Help. Speaking of Heather, she is signing up people to work the West gate for the Stampede and Fair this year. This year we have only the one gate but there will be lots of traffic comin‘ through so make Heather’s job easy by volunteering. Plus, there is a special incentive - Anyone who works two sessions or a total of 4 hours is entitled to a membership for the upcoming year.

Next meeting, July 18, 6:15. Keith Hatch and colleague will give us a presentation about the west gate. This will update us for any changes as well as refresh our memory on how to run the gate efficiently and safely. Please plan to attend and sign up with Heather.

Pony Tales is a place to advertise whatever. Any member can contribute an article or advertise a business. Our members have some interesting business outlets that might be of interest to others. Some new and previous ads are:

TRAIL RIDES

Please let me know if you have any trails that you would like me to look at for possible rides. I have a few ideas as well. I would like to bring your attention to a few poker rides for the year of 2018, some of which I believe have been posted in the HTR facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/helenatrailriders)

Check under EVENTS for a list of these rides that have been found so far. If you know of any additional rides, just let me know.

If you have any questions, please call Chris Warren,461-6257. Thanks.

John G Mine Trail Ride Details (COMPLETED June 26) Good ride ladies. Thank you Sharon, Kristi, Jan, & Sam for attending.

How to get there: Travel North on Green Meadow to John G, turn left, travel approximately .25-.5 a mile West. Park at the trail-head or just below which has a little more room to maneuver the trailers around.

From Heather (hmtnavy@blackfoot.net):

Attached to the newsletter is the gate schedule. As you can see, folks, we are still shy quite a few slots for workers on the West Gate for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Remember that we are only responsible for manning the WEST GATE this year. * Please note that this is minimum staffing – if necessary we will add another person during the heavy traffic flow shifts.

Speaking as someone who has put in A LOT of time at both gates the past few years … it is a much smaller burden to bear if we all share the task. Even if you can only work one shift - that may be the one shift that allows someone else to enjoy a night out (or a night in). So please please please consider helping out. Working the gates can be a lot of fun … in fact it is as much fun as you make it. If you have any doubts about that ask my mother – who (with a straight face mind you) asked a Sheriff’s Deputy for his license, registration and proof of insurance when he came through her line one year. If you don’t want to do it alone – bring a friend (they don’t HAVE to be a member of the Trail Riders) and then go into the Fair together after your shift for dinner together.

As an extra incentive the board has decided that in return for working 4 hours (2 shifts) that individual will be entitled to a yearlong membership to the Helena Trail Riders for 2019.

At the July 18th meeting we will be going over expectations and answering any questions. The Fairgrounds will also be there to go over the process with us for this year.
